Are Hindu Rituals Scientifically Relevant?

Some say that all the rituals followed in Hinduism are just insane and have no significance. These people claim themselves to be ardent followers of science and advancement. But, here comes the twist!

Do you know? Our forefathers belonging to the ancient generation were much more aware of scientific happenings and implemented them cleverly in their life.

Ritual 1

Married Indian women apply Sindoor(Vermillion) as it is mandatory for them.

Science behind

The place where vermillion is put has a pituitary gland. Vermillion is composed of mercury, lime and turmeric and putting it on the glands will control the blood pressure.

Ritual 2

Putting Bindi or Tilak in forehead is mandatory for Indian women who are married.

Science behind

The place between the two eyebrows has a major nerve point. On putting the Bindi it automatically gets pressed hence increasing concentration and controlling energy loss.

Ritual 3

Women wear toe rings.

Science behind

Normally women wear the toe ring in the second toe. A nerve is there which connects the toe with uterus and then passes to the heart. Science says that wearing the ring regulates the blood flow keeping the menstrual cycle regularized. Wearing a silver toe ring is even better since it is a polarizer and hence absorbs polar energies from the earth and passes it to the body.

Ritual 4

Women apply Mehendi/Henna in the hand and feet during any auspicious occasion.

Science behind

Henna is considered to be a medicinal herb and it keeps the hands and legs cool. Since marriages and occasions are considered to be stressful, putting Mehendi will keep the nerves cool and hence will prevent too much stress.

Ritual 5

Hindus pierce ear as a tradition or a sign of their culture.

Science behind

Science says that our body has many acupressure points. Piercing the ear stimulates a major point by boosting the intellect and increasing the power of thinking.

Ritual 6

Indian Women wear bangles.

Science behind

Since bangles are worn in the wrist and the major nerves run through the hands, the fiction increases. This fictional increase helps in increasing the blood circulation level.

Ritual 7

People fast on occasions to impress God.

Science behind

Fasting gives rest to all the digestive organs and cleanses them. It lowers the acid content and reduces risk of diseases like cancer and cardiovascular diseases.

Ritual 8

Temples are installed with bells so that devotees can show their respect to God.

Science behind

The sound of the bells is such that it clears our mind and helps us stay sharp. Scientifically it is said to maintain balance in left and right parts of our brain creating concentration.

Ritual 9

Throwing copper coins in the river fulfills all your wishes.

Science behind

In ancient times people used to directly consume water from the river. The coins in those times were also made of copper. So, the river water was a great source for copper intake into the body. This will be helpful to maintain blood pressure.

Ritual 10

Sadhus have huge knotted hair locks in their head. It is probably their dress code.

Hindu Sadhu

Science behind

Science says that there is a master sensitive spot in the head named as Adhipati Marma. This spot is said to generate wisdom and concentration. The knotted heavy strands of hair boost this spot and conserve its energy.

Ritual 11

Touching the feet of our elders will bless us.

Science behind

Our body always has a flow of cosmic energies in it. A fingertip is the place where the energy gathers. If we touch the fingers in the feet we will receive certain positive energies.

Ritual 12

Indians do Namastey and not hello.

Science behind

When we press the palms with each other, activation happens in the ear, mind and eyes. This enables us to remember the person we met for a longer time.

Ritual 13

Indians start with spice and end with sweets.

Science behind

Spicy things activate the digestive juices and acids and ensure that the digestion process goes on smoothly and efficiently. We then consume sweets which are carbohydrates and they pull down the digestive process.

Rituals 14

Indians usually sit on the floor and eat.

Science behind

The sitting position is named ‘Sukhasana’ in Yoga language. Science says that it brings a sense of calm and helps in digestion. It is said that this position automatically triggers the brain to prepare the stomach for digestion.

Rituals 15

Sleeping, facing your head towards North will invite ghost or cause death.

Science behind

Our body has its own magnetic field and the Earth acts as a magnet. If we sleep facing our head towards the North then our body’s magnetic field becomes completely asymmetrical to the Earth’s magnetic field. This creates blood pressure related issues. Another reason being, this position enables all the iron in our blood to accumulate in the brain hence causing headache, Alzheimer’s disease, Cognitive Decline, Parkinson disease and brain degeneration.

Rituals 16

Hindus worship Peepal tree.

Science behind

Peepal is the only tree which produces oxygen even at night. Our ancestors being aware about it related it to God to preserve its existence.

Rituals 17
