Aja Ekadashi is called Ekadashi of Krishna Paksha of Bhadrapada month. It is said that Aja Ekadashi is very dear to Lord Vishnu, so keeping fast on this Ekadashi brings blessings to Lord Vishnu and Mother Lakshmi. It is also called Annada Ekadashi.

The story of Aja Ekadashi is related to King Harishchandra. King Harish Chandra was very brave and truthful. He sells his wife and son for the fulfillment of his truth and promise and also himself becomes a servant of a Chandala. Gautam Rishi sees them as a way to get rid of this crisis. Maharishi told the king about the fast of Aja Ekadashi. On hearing the statement of Gautama Rishi, according to the king's sage, he fasts lawfully.
With the effect of this fast, all the sins of the king are destroyed. Due to the effect of the fast, he got the kingdom again. Finally, he went to heaven with his family. All this was the effect of fasting on Aja Ekadashi. People who do this fast lawfully. And awakening in the night. All their sins are destroyed. And in the end, he goes to heaven. The mere hearing of the story of this Ekadashi gives results similar to that of Ashwamedha Yagya.
