Annapurna Jayanti
Festival Goddess Annapurna who gives happiness and good fortune to her devotees
is revered with joy and glee on the full moon of Margashirsha month. It is
believed that once in ancient times, when there was a shortage of food on
earth, then Mother Parvati (Gauri) took an incarnation of the 'Mother
Annapurna' as Goddess of food, as in order to provide food for the earth masses
and protecting all mankind with her bliss. The day the mother Annapurna was
born, it was the full moon day of the month-Margashirsha in the Hindi calendar. For
this reason, 'Annapurna Jayanti' is celebrated on the day of Margashirsh
Purnima. On this day 'Tripura Bhairavi Jayanti' is also celebrated among
religious peeps.
Annapurna Jayanti Festival is basically
celebrated to pay homage to Mother Annapurna who is well-known as- the Goddess
of food among her admirers. It is also believed that there would be no shortage
of money and scarcity of food in devotees’ house who so ever worship her with
utmost gusto and fervour. People offer prayers to kitchen, stove, gas and other
useful items etc. on this day to please mother Goddess and with the grace of her,
no one gets in the condition of being insufficient and inadequate with any
house utilities. Annapurna Devi is worshipped with complete devotion and set of
rituals on this day as she is considered one of the best incarnations of
Goddess Gauri for the worshippers. Mother Annapurna is worshiped annually on
some specific date and this year in 2020, it will be extolled enthusiastically
on Tuesday, 29 December. This day holds a special significance for the pupils who were looking for charity
and other social events for poverty-stricken. The temples in Varanasi, Allahabad,
Haridwar, Karnataka, Odisha and Madhya Pradesh also celebrate this surpassing
festival with gleam every year.
