The festival of Purnima of Margashirsha month is celebrated with great enthusiasm as Datta Jayanti across India. According to the belief, on this day Lord Dattatreya resided in the earth from heaven and he has been considered as the manifestation of three- Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh. Dattatreya is a divine form of both God and Guru, therefore he is also popular as Shri Gurudevdutt among his avid devotees.
In the year 2020, Dattatreya Jayanti will fall on Tuesday, 29 December.
Shri Dattatreya is the Adi guru of the peeps
around. And it can also be said that Guru Dattatreya was a divinity for both
Nathpanth and Sufi and they gave great importance to him in all ways. In the
Vaishnava-Shaiva sect too, He has been given names such as- Guruswami, Gururaj
and Gurudevji. He is also well-known as- Guru of the Gurus, The great- Shri
Dattatreya and the one who had opened the doors of knowledge and spirituality
to everyone. The foundation of the idea of social equality and fraternity was
introduced by Shri Dattatreya.
According to the
belief, Dattatreya was born on the full moon day in Margashirsha month. As per Shrimad
Bhagavata texts, Dattatreya had gained knowledge from twenty-four gurus and the Datta
sect emerged in the name of Lord Dutt. According to a religious survey, there
are also many famous temples in South India on his name. All the wishes are
fulfilled by performing puja on the divine day of Purnima in Margashirsha month
for worshiping Lord Dattatreya. He was way popular as it is said that he has three
heads and six arms. On this day, Dattatreya's childhood incarnation is worshiped
by one and all.
