Kokila vrat is observed on the day of Ashada Purnima. This vrat is dedicated to Goddess Sati and Lord Shiva. In this vrat, the cuckoos are worshipped in the form of Adishakti. In 2021, Kokila vrat falls on Friday, 23 July. In some places, this Vrat is observed for a month from Ashadha Purnima to Shravan Purnima.

It is said that when Mother Sati came to know about this, she asked Lord Shiva permission to go to the Yajna, but Lord Shiva did not allow her to know. But when Mother Sati started stubbornly, Lord Shiva gave her permission to go. After this, Mata Sati reached the place of sacrifice. Where he had no respect. Also, insulting words were used towards Lord Shiva, which made Mother Sati very frustrated. At that time, Mother Sati gave her sacrifice at the Yajna altar. When Lord Shiva came to know about the Sati of Mother Sati, he cursed Mother Sati that you went and sacrificed against my wishes. But now you also have to live in disconnection. At that time, Lord Shiva cursed them to wander in the forest for ten thousand years. Later, worshiping Lord Shiva in the forest for 10 thousand years by becoming Mother Sati Cuckoo. After this, he was born to Parvat Raj Himalaya. Therefore, this fast has special significance.
