The Rivers have played a pre-eminent role in Kolkata. The ‘Hoogly’ River is an inherent part of this historical and antediluvian city. The ‘Ghat’ used to be utterly crowded by vendors and devotees at the time of Chhath Pooja. They prepare some very special food such as- Bananas, Grapefruit, Coconut, freshly reaped Rice, and Puris to serve on the eves of this beguiling fest. They observe a strict fast on the second day of the ‘Chhath Pooja’ Festival, in which they do not even consume water for 24 hours.
