The city of Agroha in Haryana is located in Haryana, where Maharaja Agrasen, a king, lived there. It is said that Maharaja Agrasen Ji was born in the thirty-fourth generation of Suryavanshi Lord Shri Ram i.e. in the last period of Dwapara (Mahabharata period) and Ashwin Shukla Ekam at the beginning of Kali Yuga. The Mythology of  Agrasen Jayanti

Maharaja Agrasen was one of the main initiates of Vanika Dharma. Explain that the religion was adopted by the Maharaja for the benefit of the people of the region. It is believed that Maharaja Agrasen had 18 children, hence the number of gotras in the Agrawal community is the same. After his death, the kingdom was distributed among all the children of Maharaja Agrasen and he ruled over different parts thereafter.

The legend associated with the origin of the city of Agroha is also related to Maharaja Agrasen. Once King Agrasen went to Kashi and prayed to Lord Vishnu to grant him a boon. The Lord soon appeared and instructed the king to worship Goddess Lakshmi as he could help her to overcome the problem. The king then worshiped Goddess Lakshmi and she appeared. The king asked him to teach him how to become a qualified merchant so that he could serve the people of his community well. The king later embarked on a journey with his wife to find a place where the new empire could be established. They both came to a place where some tiger cubs were playing. Later the king decided to establish a kingdom as he considered it a good sign. After this, it came to be known as Aghora. The relevance of the Agrawal community can be understood from the fact that the great Mughal king Akbar had two people from the Agrawal community.

The birth anniversary of Maharaja Agrasen Jayanti is celebrated with full religious devotion by the Agrawal community. Devotees bathe in various holy rivers throughout the region and be a part of the traditional procession. Also, this journey has passed through important places through cities. The Yatra is performed with devotion in towns and cities across Haryana. The Shobha Yatra procession includes portraits and relics of the family members of Maharaja Agrasen and is specially prepared for the day.
