Sri Ramakrishna Jayanti 2021 Dates, Rituals and Significance

A great Hindu saint, mystic, and bhakta, Sri Ramakrishna made people realize through his life and teachings that God is the only truth, He is the only reality and everything else is a mere illusion. All his life he practiced religion with utmost devotion that was unique to him.  His whole life was religion in practice. His devotion to God was complete and unique. His birthday is celebrated today as Sri Ramakrishna Jayanti. Every year Sri Ramakrishna Jayanti observe on March 15.

How people celebrate this day

Ramakrishna Mission in India organizes a number of programs. Not only in India but in several other countries Ramakrishna Jayanti is celebrated with great enthusiasm. Ramakrishna was an ardent devotee of Goddess Kali. Therefore, people worship Goddess Kali to pay tribute to Sri Ramakrishna. Other than this, people also do Guru Puja, Brihaspati Shanti Puja, Shani Graha Shanti Puja:

Story

Born as Gadadhar on 18 February 1836 in the small village Kamarpukur, Shri Ramakrishna Paramahansa was a poor kid born to a poor Brahmin family. Gadadhar was loved by the villagers. He is a yogi and a mystic whose knowledge was unparalleled. He left home at the age of 17 and became an ascetic. Worldly pleasure did not appeal to him at all. He worshipped Goddess Kali and also believed by some that he is a modern-day reincarnation of Lord Vishnu. When Hinduism was revived in Bengal, he became an important figure. That was the time when Bengal was facing a severe spiritual crisis and there was a downfall of Humanism.

Significance

This day holds great significance and therefore it is celebrated with much grandeur. All the branches of Ramakrishna Math across India hold spiritual discourses, speeches, and lectures on the life of the Swamy on this day. The great contribution of his is celebrated on this day. The lectures are delivered by eminent professors from all around the world for the common people to reach his teachings. Sharada Devi, the religious counterpart and wife of Ramakrishna Paramahamsa is also remembered on this day. Beyond any materialism, Ramakrishna led a simple life. He dedicated his life to spirituality and therefore to please him, simple offerings are enough.
