Keshant Sanskar means cutting the hair with
proper rituals and ceremonies. In Brahmins, Keshant Sanskar is also done before
-Vidhya Arambha Sanskar. It is
believed that after coming out of the womb, the child's hair on the head are of
mother and father. To remove them from the head is considered pure and divine.
Purification is necessary before attaining education so that the brain works in
the right direction. After getting education from Gurukul in ancient times, Keshant
Sanskar was performed.
Importance of Keshant Sanskar:
As the name suggests, Keshant means the end
of the hair, but it is natural to have this illusion that if cutting ceremony
is done during Keshant Sanskar then why
we perform Mundan Sanskar. So the
difference between that: Keshant Sanskar
is done when a boy gets moustache and beard on his face during his adolescence
phase while Mundan Sanskar takes
place at the time of the infant’s birth. The boy's beard is also cut, even
during this Keshant Sanskar along
with the hair cut..
Indeed, during the
Guru's disciple tradition that begins after the Upanayan Sanskar rites. Following
the Brahmacharya, the person attains
knowledge while staying in the proximity of the Guru. During achieving the knowledge
from Guru, the person does not cut his hair even while following Brahmacharya. When
that person comes on the threshold of puberty, he gets beards and moustaches on
his face. To remove those hair in an appropriate manner is termed as Keshant Sanskar.
