About
Arunachaleshwarar Temple is a famous Shiva Pilgrimage
and is known by devotees as Annamalayar or Arunachaleswarar in Tamil Nadu. This
is one of the largest temples in the world dedicated to Shiva. The history of
this Annamalayar temple dates back to thousand years. As per locals,
Thiruvannamalai is the capital of Saivism and The South Indian deity Siva is
worshipped here in Arunachaleshwarar Temple. It is the most sacred names of the
manifestation of Lord Shiva.
MahaShivratri: The temple is visited by
number of devotees during the Hindu festival Shivratri. Number of Devotees and
the people visit this holy place on this auspicious occasion. A fest (fair) has
been organised by the local devotees and the organisers to celebrate this big
festival annually. Devotees observe fast on this night and do not eat anything
till night and offer fruits, flowers and bel leaves on Shiva Linga. This
notable pilgrimage is decorated with flowers and lights and has a spiritual
environment which gives peace of mind and heart to the pilgrims.
Mondays are
considered particularly popular in this temple to get blessings. Therefore, the
temple attracts visitors in hordes. The temple is also located close to some
popular monuments in Tamil Nadu.
