About
The name ' Unakoti' is a Bengali word, meaning
one less than a crore. The temple is famous as a Shaivite pilgrim which has an ancient
rock cut sculptures and stone carvings in its walls. This notable place is also
a tourist magnet because of its surrounding natural beauty with rolling
mountains, lush greenery and waterfalls. The speciality of this temple is that
it has 30 feet high statue of Shiva which is popularly called as the
Unakotishwara Kal Bhairava. Inside the temple complex, there are two female
figurines, one of Goddess Durga standing on a lion, and other remains
unidentified. During the month of April, Unakoti commemorated Ashokashtami Mela (fair)
visited by thousands of pilgrims every year.
