About
Baghnath temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The
actual meaning of the temple is- “the master of Tiger”. Inside the temple, the
main deity of Lord Shiva is found seated on a tiger ski. And Lord’s Deity is
also known as Baghnath- i.e the mentor of Tiger animal. This illustrious holy temple
is fixed on the bank of the River- Gomti and Sarayu which is at a distance of
90 kilometers from the city- Almora. Almora is famed as one of the beautiful hill
stations of Uttarakhand. Temple has various abodes for other deities as well
and has small idols of other gods and goddesses situated at different sanctums.
Devotees give a visit to this temple to get blessings and to pay homage to Lord
Shiva and other gods. People visit on various occasions and perform a set of
rituals while chNTING ohm- namah- shivah.
The main temple has umpteen pilgrimages around They are Durga temple,
Dattatrey Maharaj, Hanuman temple, Kalika temple, Ganga Mai temple, Panchnam
Junakhara, Thingal Bhairav temple, and the Vaneswar temple and much more.
MahaShivratri is
commemorated among the devotees with a great zeal and enthusiasm every year.
People from the city as well as outside it gather together to celebrate this
occasion of Lord Shiva in a unique way. They offer Bel-Patri, Milk, Flowers and
Fruits to get blessings of Mahadeva. Devotees visit this temple especially on
some auspicious occasions to seek fulfilment of the following- Salvation; Wealth
and Relief from diseases.
