About
Bhavnath Mahadeva Temple is situated in the
hillocks of Girnar Hills at Junagadh, Gujarat. This is one of the ancient and
noteworthy Hindu Temples in Junagadh. Lord Shiva is worshipped inside the
sanctorum- sanctum. Legend holds that the Shiva Lingam was born out of the
divine intention of making this place, a place of worship of Lord Shiva.
MahaShivratri is celebrated among
the local devotees and the tourists with a great fervour, devotion and zeal
every year. Naga Bavas (Sages) are seen seated on the elephants holding flags in their hands on
Shivratri and the organizers serve free meals to the visitors on this
auspicious occasion inside the temple premise Bhavnath Fair is the foremost and
illustrious Mela (Fair) organised by the temple annually. It is basically a
five days festivity in the month of Magha as per the Hindu calendar. Devotees
say that the most striking and the attractive feature of this annual fair is the
active participation of the Naga Bavas. Lili Parikrama is also commemorated
inside the temple.
