Biraja Temple is one of the marvellous temples of Jajpur, which is situated in Indian state of Odisha. This Holy pilgrimage is devoted to Sati who took an incarnation of Goddess- Durga (Shakti) in the form of Biraja Maa. Nestled on the River-banks of Baitarani, the temple is famous as one of the Shakti Peetha among 51. An enshrined deity of Lord Sveta Baraha who is famed as the manifestation of Lord Vishnu as the white boar is placed beautifully in the temple vicinity.
Architecture/History: History says- While the Lord Shiva was carrying the corpse of Mother- Sati, in this sacred place, her navel fell down and thus the temple revere Goddess- Biraja and thus got the name after her. The temple is made up of white colored stones and has a red flag on the top of the vimana. The idols of two lions are installed either side of the main entrance of the temple. The temple is white-washed and has divine sculptures engraved on the outer walls.
Speciality: Navratri and Durga Puja are the religious festivals celebrated inside the temple with utmost gusto and devotion twice in a year.
