About
Chousat Yogini temple in Bhedagha is a very
ancient temple and has a splendid architecture. It is one of the oldest
heritage temples in India. This historic temple is situated on a hillock in
Jabalpur city. This pilgrimage was established during the reign of Kalchuri
Dynasty at 10th century. The temple has beautiful engraved walls made with
local granite and magnificent paintings. However, one of Mughal invaders destroyed
the beautiful statues placed inside the main temple premise. It is famouas as the
abode of Goddess Durga(Shakti) along with 64 yoginis which have been marked to
be the different forms of the Goddess.
MahaShivratri
festival is celebrated on the 6th night of
the dark Phalgun- Feb or March every year. Devotees observe fast on this night
and do not eat anything till night and offer fruits, flowers and bel leaves on
Shiva Linga. The Festival- Mahashivaratri marks the night when Lord Shiva
performed the 'Tandava'. People believe that on this holy day Lord Shiva was
married to Parvati Maa. Devotees visit this temple especially on some
auspicious occasions to seek fulfilment of the following- Salvation; Wealth and
Relief from diseases.
