About
Chintpurni is one of the Shakti Peethas and a major pilgrimage centre and in India. The Chintpurni (Chhinnamastik shakti peeth) is situated in Una district in Himachal Pradesh state which is surrounded by the western Himalaya in the the smaller Shivalik range. It is located in the north and east bordering the state of Punjab. The Chintpurni Shakti Peeth is a pilgrim centre which consists of the temple of Chinnamastika Devi or Chinnamasta Devi. Chhinnamasta temple is one of the seven major total Shakti Peethas among 52 Shakti Peeths in India. It is elucidated as the severed-headed one as well as the fore headed. The Hindu ancestry registers at Chintpurni, Himachal Pradesh are kept here.

By bus:
Delhi, Haryana, Punjab and Himachal State
Transport departments run buses on the Delhi-Chandigarh-Chintpurni route. And Himachal
Road Transport Corporation runs a daily Volvo coach service between Delhi and
Chintpurni. However, the Buses running on the Delhi-Chandigarh- Dharamshalaand
Delhi-Chandigarh- Palampur route stop at either Bharwain or Chintpurni bus
stand. Frequent State Transport bus services are also available from important
cities of Punjab, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, and Delhi
etc.
By train:
These can be used to travel to Chintpurni. Frequent
bus and taxi services toChintpurni are available from all nearby railway
stations. The nearest railway station is Ambandaura which is 20 km from the Chintpurni
temple. Other nearby stations are- Una
Himachal at 50 km and Hoshiarpur (station code HSX) which is at 42km.
By air:
The Nearest airport
is at Gaggal in Dharmshala, which is in Kangra district. And the Distance to
Chintpurni is 60 km. Indian Airlines flies to Dharmshala via Chandigarh.
Kingfisher Airlines, Indigo, Go Air also provide flights till Dharmshala,
though you may need to verify with these service providers. Other airports are
at Amritsar which is at 160 km and Chandigarh is at approx 150 km.
History
A Saraswat Brahman- Pandit Mai Das has built
this shrine of Mata Chintpurni Devi in Chhaproh village about 26 generations
ago. With the time, this place became famous as Chintpurni after the the deity
has been positioned in the complex. People say that his descendants still
reside in Chintpurni and perform traditional prayers and Puja at this temple.
As these descendants are supposed to be the official priests ( Pujaris ) at the
Temple.
