Shri Gopishwar Mahadeva Temple is sited at the
centre Vrindavan in the hearts of Mathura close to Durwasha Ashram. It is famed as the oldest and the ancient
temple in Vrindavan. It is situated near to holy Yamuna River and is counted
among the sacred and the historic Hindi Temples in India. Lord Shiva along with
his Lingam Avatar is worshipped inside the temple. In the temple a new Panchmukhi
Shivlinga is fixed between Lord Shiva idol and Nandi. Almost all the festivals
are celebrated with a set of rituals in this temple. The festival of Shivratri
is observed at grand scale with a great devotion and fervour. The atmosphere of
the temple provides peace to mind and heart of the devotees and the tourists.
This illustrious pilgrim lmage centre also arranges a fifteen days fair at the
time of Mahashivratri Parva every year. A fest (fair) has been organised by the
local devotees and the organisers to celebrate this big festival annually.
Devotees observe fast on this night and do not eat anything till night and
offer fruits, flowers and bel leaves on Shiva Linga. People believe that on
this holy day Lord Shiva was married to Parvati Maa.
