The president of the Maharashtra Oriya Welfare Association (MOWA) helped in the construction of Jagannath temple at Mumbai which is a replica of Puri Jagannath temple (Odisha) and the local people follow the same type of rituals since ages.The beautiful idols of deities- Lord Jagannath and his brother- Balabhadra and their loving daughter- Subhadra are made with special type of Neem powder. However, the cultural significance of Lord Shri Jagannath is associated with human life. People say Jagannath’s temple Pratistha’ was taken place during the month of January, 2011.
How to reach:
Kharghar is located on the outskirts of Mumbai. It falls in Raigad
district. Kharghar railway station lies on Central Railway's Harbour line, a
part of Mumbai's suburban railway network. It takes about 65 minutes to reach
Kharghar by train from Chatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST).
History
Legends say according to
Balaram Patro who was a secretary, Mowa- Three lakh (approx)Oriya population in
the city, Cidco allotted a piece of land admeasuring 500 square metre in
Kharghar for the temple construction and
later on Bhoomi Puja had been performed by the Oriya community on the
auspicious day of Äkshya tritiya on May 16, 2010. However their main aim was to
help the poor and the poverty-stricken by arranging free medical camps and to
construct Lord Jagannath temple and to get connected with social, cultural and
devotional activities.
