Karivalamkulam Nataraja Temple in
Thirunelveli is one of the five important Nataraja temples in India. This
notable pilgrimage is built by King Sundara Pandyan of Thirunelveli to cure his
only daughter, who was mentally deranged.

The divine wedding (Thirukalyanam) of
Nataraja-Sivakaami is also celebrated with much grandeur on the Thiruvonam day
in the Malayalam month of Medam every year.
MahaShivratri
festival is celebrated on the 6th night of the dark Phalgun- Feb or March every
year. Devotees observe fast on this night and do not eat anything till night
and offer fruits, flowers and bel leaves on Shiva Linga. The Festival-
Mahashivaratri marks the night when Lord Shiva performed the 'Tandava'. People
believe that on this holy day Lord Shiva was married to Goddess Parvati.
