About
Nageshvara (Nageshwara) Temple is situated in
Begur town in Bangalore district at Karnataka. This notable pilgrimage is
firmly and popularly known as Naganatheshvara Temple or Pancha lingeshwara
temple among the local residents and tourists. Begur Nageshwara Temple is
dedicated to Lord Shiva and has Shivlinga in the main abode. People specially
come on Mondays to take blessings for their near and dear ones. There are two
deities placed in the Shrine within the temple complex, the Nageshvara and
Nageshvarasvami were established during the rule of Western Ganga Dynasty Kings
Nitimarga I and Ereyappa Nitimarga II.
Almost all the
festivals are celebrated with a set of rituals in this temple. The festival of
Shivratri is observed at grand scale with a great devotion and fervour. The
atmosphere of the temple provides peace to mind and heart of the devotees and
the toursits. This illustrious pilgrimage centre also arranges a fifteen days
fair at the time of Mahashivratri Parva every year. A fest (fair) has been organised
by the local devotees and the organisers to celebrate this big festival
annually. Devotees observe fast on this night and do not eat anything till
night and offer fruits, flowers and bel leaves on Shiva Linga. People believe
that on this holy day Lord Shiva was married to Parvati Maa.
