Shri ghushmeshwar jyotirlinga is popularly fames
as the 12th Shivalya in Rajasthan. It is one of the famous Jyotirlingas
situated at Shiwad, Sawai Madhopur. Shiva is worshipped as Lingam on the basis
of a Shivlinga emerged from the ground place as evidence from this holy place. Inside
the main abode and at the centre of the sanctum- sanctorum, numerous Shivlingas
are fixed. As per the history, Mohmood Gajnavi ordered his armed forces to
attack on this divine pilgrimage in 1081. The temple got damaged by their
dreadful physical assault with the motive of stealing the temple properties. MahaShivratri festival is celebrated on
the 6th night of the dark Phalgun- Feb or March every year. Devotees observe
fast on this night and do not eat anything till night and offer fruits, flowers
and Bel leaves on Shiva Linga. The Festival- Mahashivaratri marks the night
when Lord Shiva performed the 'Tandava'. People believe that on this holy day
Lord Shiva was married to Parvati Maa. Devotees visit this temple especially on
some auspicious occasions to seek fulfilment of the following- Salvation;
