Kote Shree Jalakanteshwara Swamy temple is a
very famous and the oldest among all the Shiva Temples in Karnataka state. This
eminent Hindu Pilgrimage has a beautiful Shivlinga installed inside the
sanctorum. The speciality about the temple is that the statue of Goddess
Parvati is placed in such a way that half of the idol is olny visible when seen
from the main gate, therefore the temple is known as- Ardhanareeshwara. Inside the main temple,
People also worship-Kurma (tortoise), Mathsya (fish) and Sarpa (snake) to get
positivity. Another belief followed is worshiping rare idol of Goddess Durga
standing on a ball by unmarried girls to get husband of their wishes within 48
days. The temple is situated in a very calm place and has a serene atmosphere
around it.
On Mahashivratri,
umpteen devotees throng the temple with prayers on their mind and offering on
their hands. People come from various places to get Shiva’s Blessings and they
observe a holy vibe surrounding in this auspicious occasion. Fairs have been organised and people often fast on the night of
Shivratri and sing hymns and praises in the name of Lord Shiva. Large carcades
are carried out within the city with people thronging the streets to catch a
glance of the venerate idol of Mahadeva.
