Dwarkadheesh is one of the oldest and largest temples of Mathura, (Uttar Pradesh) in India along the Yamuna River and also one of the major pilgrimages of India .It is a Hindu Temple dedicated to the Lord Krishna. The Temple is having large and beautiful Premises with the main building enclosed by a magnificently carved Rajasthani style entrance and the temple has deities images of various Gods and Goddesses.

How to Reach:

This Temple is about 3.5 km from city main railway station Mathura Junction. From there many modes are available to reach the temple e.g. autorickshaw takes about 10 minutes to reach the temple. A cycle rickshaw takes about 15–20 minutes only. Mathura city can be approached by nearest airport at Agra 60 km away. From there a cab or bus for Mathura depot can be taken and then reach the temple by taking a connecting auto or rickshaw.

History

In 1814, its current structure was built up by Seth Gokul Das Parikh (the treasurer of the Gwalior Estate).It was built for the famous Hindu deity Dwarkadheesh (meaning the God or king of Dwarka ) and major and This is also a famous Hindu shrine where the main deity is of Lord Dwarkadheesh, a form of Lord Krishna seen which  is the main attraction of the temple in a black Marble idol named Dwarkanath and deity of RadhaRani made up of White Marble.

Architectural Brief

This is the place, where Lord Krishna has shifted from Mathura and settled till his life on earth. In 1930, the temple was shifted to Pustimarg Girgharlal Acharya Ji from Kankroli for worship services and since then Lord Krishna is worshipped according to them.The Temple welcomes thousands of devotees and visitors from different part of the world to receive the blessings of the Lord Krishna.

The temple celebrates HINDOLA  FESTIVAL  during the festivals - Janamasthmi  and Holi as the temple is famous for Swing Festival (Jhoola) which is celebrated in the month of Shravan Maas.
