Details

Gavi Gangadhareshwara Temple is a historic and old temple situated in Karnataka. The temple is located in Gavipura at Kempegowda Nagar in Bengaluru. In the 9th century, the temple was beautifully built by a natural monolith rock. This notable Hindu temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is positioned on the ancient hillocks. This sacred temple has a very unique statue of Agni (The lord of Fire) with four- massive pillars along with a peculiar stone in the main sanctum allowing the Sun to shine on Shivlinga in certain time- period of the year. Gavi Temple is famed for having so many deities in single frame inside the main temple premise. Maker Sankranti is observed with a great pomp every year.

MahaShivratri festival is celebrated on the 6th night of the dark Phalgun- Feb or March every year. Devotees observe fast on this night and do not eat anything till night and offer fruits, flowers and Bel leaves on Shiva Linga. The Festival- Mahashivaratri marks the night when Lord Shiva performed the 'Tandava'. People believe that on this holy day Lord Shiva was married to Parvati Maa. Devotees visit this temple especially on some auspicious occasions to seek fulfilment of the following- Salvation; Wealth and Relief from diseases.
