About

Details

Lake Kalibari is a famous Kali temple which is located in Southern Avenue, Kolkata. The official name of the temple is Sree Sree 108 Karunamoyee Kalimata Mandir which has been given after the name of presiding deity Karunamoyee. Basically, the temple is managed by the Sree Sri Karunamoyee Kalimata Trust and was established about 60 years ago by the Gurudev. Gurudev concocted ‘Tantra Kriya’ for offering his prayers to the Goddess about the welfare of mankind. It is one of the famed and popular religious pilgrims of Bengal state.

The temple’s construction was partially completed by 2013 but due to financial issues it has still not completed. The illuminated Lake Kalibari, which is situated at South Kolkata, is slowly moving on its way to present a new concept of colourful, ornamental and multi-storeyed unique Temple. This site is a very serene place of harmony for performing various Archanas and Pujas.

History

The remembrance of God was enkindled by ‘Sree Sree Haripada Chakroborty’, who was the revered Gurudev of that time. For his spiritual sadhana and ardent love for the almighty mother – ‘Maa Kali’, suddenly the divine mother became a Light of Divinity, luminous like a thousand suns, and appeared in his thatched hut where mother Sree Sree 108 Karunamoyee Kalimata has been sanctified. Gurudev thought in a different way and blossomed in such hued light of Divinity and, at the directive of the divine mother, Gurudev constructed a seat of five skulls (Panchamundi’s Ashan) for the performance of ‘Tantra Kriya’ to ensure the proper solace of mankind and, thus, dedicated his life to a vast Karmayagya. In 1987, out of his innumerable disciples. Then, Gurudev ultimately picked Sri Nitai ChandraBasu as his competent torchbearer and trained him for the advancement of his Karmayagya. Thus yesterday’s Karmayagya has been transformed into a present day Dharmayagya: A vast project for the construction of a ‘Temple Complex’. For the temple preparation, and the infrastructure- Sri Basu consigned his 15 years of service and source.
