Mahamaya Dham Temple is one of the greatest Shakti Peethas for Hindu pilgrims. This sacred temple is situated at Bogribari which is about 30 km east from Dhubri town and 10 km west from Bilasipara town in Lower Assam, India. ‘Parvatjowar’ local Devotees such as Kacharies, Koches and Naths worship Goddess Mahamaya and a beautiful goddess deity is placed inside the temple premise.

Visitors and Tourist also go and visit Mahamaya Snaanghat Temple to revere Mahamaya goddess which is situated at few kilometers away from the main Mahamaya temple. In the bygone days, It is a belief that in this place goddess Mahamaya used to take bath. That is why, from that time, the place came to be known as Mahamaya Snaanghat.

 

History

Mythology says that The zamindar, who is the landlord of ‘Parvatjowar’ explicitly, superintended the deity and were the only locale people who worshipped the deity in the temple. Basically, the temple has got its name from the goddess Mahamaya, which means supreme illusion. From many generations, Devi Mahamaya showers her blessings on the devotees who come and visit her with the pure heart from many generations. In the month of January, a Shakti Yagya is performed here by the temple priests annually as this splendid temple is observed to be one of the most important shrines in North East.

Shrines of the magnificent idol of Goddess Kali and Lord Hanuman on the temple premises are the second most attraction for the devotees.
