This famous temple was built by a queen, who was popular as “Rani Prasanni Devi”. It was constructed in 1802 with the name- Narvadeshwar. This Lord Shiva unique shrine is located in a town called Tira Sujanpur in the Hamirpur district. Narvadeshwar temple embraces of beautifully designed paintings and carvings on the walls that represent scenes from the epics Ramayana and Mahabharata. Inside the temple complex, a number of small temples are also sited, devoted to Goddess Durga, Lord Ganesha, Lakshmi-Narayan etc and can be seen in close proximity to this temple. This is one of the oldest temples which has been carved out using a style called “Bhitti”. The walls of Temple are adorned with magnificent mural paintings which are the characteristic feature of this very sacred place. And the miniature paintings that embellish the interior are sculpted in’ Kangra Style’

The nearest narrow gauge railway station is located in Maranda while the closest broad gauge railway station includes Joginder nagar on one side and Pathankot on the other.

History

History says Narvadeshwar Temple is one of the oldest and the famous Hindu temples in India. It is basically situated in the Tira Sujanpur. The temple has been commenced in the open ground by 1802. The Queen of Maharaja Sansar Chand has constructed the Narvadeswar Temple. The King who was Bansiwala (for Lord Krishna) on one side of the ground, and Shri Naravdeshwar was on the other side towards the Beas River during the establishment of the temple. Famous designers who were also famed as the members of King’s court have drawn graphics and images which represent Epic Bhagwat Purana, Shri Ramayana and Shri Mahabharta. According to Hindu Mythology, this temple is two hundred years old. Narvadeshwar temple also displays the images of wild animals and birds on to the walls. People say artists, belonging to the court of the Raja had delineated beautiful murals on the temple walls, depicting scenes from the Ramayana, Mahabharata and Bhagwat Gita and also wild animals and birds.
