This Temple is a very popular and sacred shrine located on the hillocks of Shimla. Tara Devi Temple is sited on the hills-Tarav hill on the western side of the Town near Shoghi which is about 15 km far from Shimla. The temple is dedicated to the Hindu-Buddhists Goddess Tara, named- goddess Bhagwati Tara Devi. It is a famous religious attraction of Shimla and it is a belief that it is more than 250 years ancient and constructed by the King Bhupendra Sen. This famed temple had a wooden idol of Tara Devi however after the temple shrine shifting over the mountain the temple was adorned with the unique idol of goddess which is made from eight elements of nature. It is basically situated between thick forests which have lots of trees of oaks. The devotees reach the temple through a dense forest and narrow lane which is full of splendid natural, scenic beauty and adorable view of the hillocks. Mythology says that the goddess Tara Devi was positioned here from Bengal therefore the temple is devoted to her.

How to reach :

By Air : 

The nearest airport is named Jubbarhatti Airport, which is approximately located at a distance of 22 kilometers from  Shimla. Tourist has to go to Shimla to reach the Tara Devi Temple.

By Rail : 

Shimla is well connected by a narrow gauge line with Kalka which is connected with the major cities in India. Various train routes are available to reach Shimla.

By Road :

There are many options available to reach Shimla such as owned and private buses, regular buses, and Air-conditioned and deluxe luxury coaches run from many states of India.

History

Tara Devi temple is 250 years and has spiritual and religious importance. As per the Hindu Mythology, Tara Devi Shrine was brought to Himachal Pradesh from Bengal West in the town named Shoghi. ‘Shoghi’ is famous as a very sacred and holy place. It is a small town in Shimla which is widely known as the city of divine temples. Pre-dominantly, the history of this temple is linked with a real incident which happens with a king of ‘San ‘dynasty. San People always keep a locket with golden idol of their Clan goddess with them. And the practice of keeping this lock in the San Dynasty has been going on for many years. King of San dynasty once unbelievable incident happen with the king named king Bhupendra during the period 96th. The king saw his Clan goddess Tara Devi along with her Dwarpal Bhairav and the lord hanuman ji when he was hunting in the thick forest of juggar.  Tara Devi expressed her desire to settle down in that place at the same time and the king immediately donated the land and constructed a temple of Goddess Tara Devi. After some years another King Balbir Sen had a fantasy about goddess and set on the top of the Tarav hills. After that, the king ordered and made an idol with eight elements of earth and installed the idol with big commemorations around.
