Festival Of Kites – Gujarat and Rajasthan
In Gujarat and Rajasthan a huge kite festival is arranged where people come in huge numbers and is known as ‘Uttarayan’. This is a full kite-flying day, colourful kites in the sky convert Sankranti into the beautiful colours of kites. The International Kite festival is held at Ahmadabad on January 14 of every year.
Ganga Sagar Mela – West Bengal
The place where Ganga river enters the sea, thousands of pilgrims and Sadhus come here for the holy bath on the day of Makar Sankranti. Many regional products are put on display for sale and is a must watch.
In South India, Makar Sankranti is famously known as Pongal. It is a three long days celebration and in this one of the days marks the Jallikattu festival which is a bullock race.
In Bengal, Makar Sankranti is celebrated at the last day of theBengali month of Poush. This festival goes on for ten days, feasting, boat races, songs and dance arethe major parts of attraction of this important Indian festival. It is celebrated with the til (sesame seeds)ke laddoo, gajak, Ellu Bella and sarson ka saag-makka ki roti.
